I'm currently the chairman of Amiga Computer Group Gothenburg, which was started August 2002.
Since then, we've grown considerably and we've had a couple of events where we make time and get together for some fun with our amigas.
As the hardware is getting older and older, and fewer and fewer people are into amigas, we thought it was a good idea to get some people together. Together, we can help out those in need, and as they say.. "Many is strong."
As it stands, my current interests are system monitoring, coding in python and operating systems. Since discovering python, I've started to abondon shellscripts more and more. The more complex a shellscript gets, the harder it is to read and follow its logic. Some of the code gets inherently garbled. My experience with python tells me that it is not only easier to get it to do what you want, but with Object Oriented programming, it is also alot more powerful and flexible.
I'm currently learning more about operating systems fundamentals, mainly linux and Amiga OS, two vastly different systems.
My current project is Nagios, a system monitoring tool that I've set up. My installation monitors close to 500 machines and roughly 1500 services (and more will come, be sure of that). I've written several plugins to be used with Nagios, for instance a printer queue checker, or a SunGridEngine queue checker. These are currently not released, but if you want them, please, do ask for them. I will consider your request.
I'm currently pretty interested in alternative processors, as you might have guessed if you've looked at my hardware. I'm also not running the "default" operating system on any of these architectures. I've choosen debian, which might not be as userfriendly as many other distributions, but it does cover the platforms I want to use and it certainly is admin-friendly. And that, for me, is a big plus. However, the hardware list is old and outdated, and I've turned off some of the older machines there. They simply ate too much electricity and they were used less and less to warrant the cost.
Aside from those points, I've also started my own company that sells Amiga hardware and software. It's called Guru Meditation but Amiga things aside, that's not all we do. We hire our knowledge in the fields of operating systems maintenance, scripting, performance monitoring and much more, to those who are in need of it.
