[Report] Little Computer People 2 0 0 4
|
I've heard about LCP a few times before, but since I never considered myself as "Elite" or part of the "Scene" I thought someone like myself wouldn't fit in. Boy was I wrong. I don't think I've ever met such an open minded bunch of people. There was room for everyone. And for some strange reason after a few hours it felt like I've known some of them for years.
It's fascinating what you can do with old hardware, things like a Spectrum clone, Nintendo clone or a Gameboy. Yes. There was actually a Gameboy tune in the "Others" music compo. And it was really really cool! But of cource the main platform was the Commodore 64/128. It was truly inspirational to see all these geniuses at work (when sober). This guy from Australia (forgot your name, sorry dude!) actually had a 3D engine on the C=64. It wasn't fast, but still ;)
Friday evening we sat outside and had a small barbeque. Drank some beer and had a few laughs. I heard some rumours of a gang (including a member of ACGGbg, who firmly denies all involvement) going into town and making complete fools of themselves. The details was very vauge though.
There was a table with a lot of old magazines like Datormagazin (the original folded version) and HemdatorNytt, I didn't know I missed Torsten that much until I met him again. :)
There was a lot of big names from the scene as well, Fairlight, Triad, The Gang, Uprough, Instinct to mention a few. It was also quite an international event with ppl from Germany, France, Holland, UK, Finland, Norway and Belgium. On saturday it was compo time, actually since the compos was delayed (wouldn't be a real party if they where on time now would it?!) they actually started very early on Sunday. As I was unable to keep up until 06:00 when the results was presented I actually can't say anything except that it was a fair amout of really serious work. I did hear that "Postcard from Stockholm" won the C=64 demo compo, and my favourite - the Gameboy tune, got a 2:nd place in "Other music". Oh yeah, and of course Mermaid's "Be my Mermaid"(IFF) won the Graphics compo, it was a truly amazing picture. As you can see in the pictures there was another compo as well, "Tour d'France". A whole lot of sweat got on those sticks, I can tell you that! :)
UPDATE! Compo results can be found at www.lcp.c64.org.
Although this was a pure retro event I actually managed to sneak in my AmigaOne, and Gurumeditation.se brought an Micro-A1 booting of a Compact Flash card!.
Since I'm too lazy to do something with the pictures, I'm just gonna point to this Picture directory!"
Enjoy!
